“What sorrow awaits my rebellious children,” says the LORD. “You make plans that are contrary to mine. You make alliances not directed by my Spirit, thus piling up your sins. For without consulting me, you have gone down to Egypt for help. You have put your trust in Pharaoh’s protection. You have tried to hide in his shade. [Isaiah 30.1-2]
This is not the only passage in today's OYCB reading that scolds God's people for not trusting Him alone.
You said, ‘No, we will get our help from Egypt. They will give us swift horses for riding into battle.’ But the only swiftness you are going to see is the swiftness of your enemies chasing you! [Isaiah 30.16]
What sorrow awaits those who look to Egypt for help, trusting their horses, chariots, and charioteers and depending on the strength of human armies instead of looking to the LORD, the Holy One of Israel. [Isaiah 31.1]
There is no escaping the truth that God Will not tolerate our divided trust. For the record, partial trust in God is as good as no trust in Him at all. God will not share His glory with anyone or anything.
The problem is that modern society is so engrained with idols and idolatry that few even recognize it. In fact, the "Church" as we know it today, trusts the world and its ways as much as godless people.
At some point, the error of our worldly "Christian" ways must be called out!
We need to purify our lives in regard to what we trust in! To do so however will make us fools in the world's eye (even more than they think us fools now).
At this time it would be good to remind ourselves what Jesus said:
But the gateway to life is very narrow and the road is difficult, and only a few ever find it. [Matthew 7.14]
What this tells me is that regardless what world demographic records say, there will be FEW who find the true way of Christianity. FEW!
Am I just an alarmist? I HOPE SO! Our house is engulfed in the deadly flames of unbelief while inside we slumber in abstract faith that is nothing more than inglorious idolatry.
We need to repent. We need to turn from the countless godless idols we trust in for provisions God has repeatedly said He Himself would provide.
Too radical? "Too" rhymes with "few." I want to be one of those few!
Father, forgive me for trusting the world and its ways for that which You said You would provide. Forgive me for my idolatry!
