Details Are Important

The area in front of the Tabernacle, in the east toward the sunrise, was reserved for the tents of Moses and of Aaron and his sons, who had the final responsibility for the sanctuary on behalf of the people of Israel. Anyone other than a priest or Levite who went too near the sanctuary was to be put to death. [Numbers 3.38]

It seems so harsh that anyone getting too close to the sanctuary was to be put to death, doesn't it? It was eternally necessary to do so however, to effectively portray the significance of Jesus presenting Himself as the absolute Way to God.

With all the rules and regulations of the Old Covenant (the Law), we must remain constantly mindful that everything about these mandates and details points to Christ. At whatever point we fail to see Jesus in the Old Testament Scriptures, we have lost our "eyes to see and ears to hear..." effectively putting ourselves in the same condition as the religious leaders of Jesus' day who were responsible for Jesus' crucifixion.

Oh yes, these details are important! But, only as much as we see Christ in them! And then, with the understanding of Messiah as their object, Old Testament Scriptures' importance soars with infinite depth of meaning as God's plan for Redemption is seen from the very beginning!

Father, may I be found with eyes to see and ears to hear "Christ" in all the intricate details of the Old Testament!
