For the Mighty One is holy, and he has done great things for me. He shows mercy from generation to generation to all who fear him. His mighty arm has done tremendous things! He has scattered the proud and haughty ones. He has brought down princes from their thrones and exalted the humble. He has filled the hungry with good things and sent the rich away with empty hands. He has helped his servant Israel and remembered to be merciful. For he made this promise to our ancestors, to Abraham and his children forever.” [Luke 1.49-55]
It is further occurring to me that we need to know God. Mary's little speech here serves as a reminder.
You know, nothing else really even matters until we first know God.
In fact, it matters not what we know about ourselves if we do not first know God.
It matters not what we know about others until we first know God.
It matters not what we know about the world until we first know God.
It matters not what we know about science and technology until we first know God.
Nothing matters if we do not first know God.
Mary gives us some insight into knowing God. But also check out this definition Simeon gave about Jesus:
He is a light to reveal God to the nations, and he is the glory of your people Israel!” [Luke 2.32]
In God's great mercy, and even though all the Old Testament revealed God's Word and will to man, God went the extra step to demonstrate Himself in the flesh through Jesus the Messiah. Jesus, a light to reveal
God to the nations...
Wow. Life only truly comes into focus when our focus is not on life and all its circumstances but on God.
Father, I want to know You more. Nothing else matters. I want to focus only on You. I know everything else finds it meaning only in You.
