God looks down from heaven on the entire human race; he looks to see if anyone is truly wise, if anyone seeks God. But no, all have turned away; all have become corrupt. No one does good, not a single one! [Psalm 53.2-3]
This passage today makes me think that there is truly only one hope for all: God's forgiveness. And, that forgiveness is contingent upon only one thing: repentance.
We may look at others with disdain at their sinful ways, but our disdain is misplaced. To judge others is to judge ourselves. We all need the same thing: forgiveness. We all need to get it the same way: repentance.
We are all sinners. The only thing that distinguishes between one sinner and another is repentance that leads to forgiveness. Without repentance, there will be no forgiveness.
How many more ways does it need to be said that we might grasp the truth of it? We all need the exact same thing because we are all the exact same way. There is simply no room for pride.
Father, help me to humbly remember that the only thing that distinguishes me from every other sinner is repentance.
