Someone once told me, ‘Saul is dead,’ thinking he was bringing me good news. But I seized him and killed him at Ziklag. That’s the reward I gave him for his news! [2 Samuel 4.10]
Once again, we see the importance of the "anointing." Recab and Baanah thought they were doing a good thing. But, had they known their history with David and Saul, they might have thought differently.
What we see in David is an understanding of the "anointing" that surely speaks of why God viewed him as a "man after His own heart."
As we consider Jesus' words in Luke's gospel about the "anointing" upon Him (Luke 4.18-19), we are compelled to understand that this same "anointing" is upon us (John 14.12 and John 17.18).
This discussion of the "anointing" is perhaps one of the most pivotal topics of the New Testament. It was this topic - and how Jesus completely understood it and communicated it - that inspired the ire of the religious leaders and ultimately got Jesus nailed to the Cross.
As believers today more completely understand and subsequently communicate that same "anointing," what might they expect? (hint: miracles and persecution)
Father, help me to walk in that anointing that Jesus walked in by the empowerment of the Holy Spirit. I understand, Father, that miracles will accompany that anointing, but I also understand that persecution will follow it too.
