Always Something To Mess It Up...

When the Philistines heard that David had been anointed king of Israel, they mobilized all their forces to capture him. But David was told they were coming, so he went into the stronghold. [2 Samuel 5.17]

It seems like any time something good happens, there is always something or someone else who wants to mess it up. Wouldn't it be nice if it weren't that way?

It will be that way when we are in heaven. But in the meantime, we must stay tuned to God's leading through the Holy Spirit and His Word so that we, by doing so, might remain in the victory that is His.

David temporarily retreated into his stronghold. And, what did he do there? He inquired of the LORD. And, it was there that God instructed David how to defeat his attackers.

In it's broadest sense, this story shows us the importance of retreating to prayer for guidance in how to face the enemy of our souls. Psalm 91.1 says it like this:

Those who live in the shelter of the Most High will find rest in the shadow of the Almighty. [Psalm 91.1]

I need this today. I feel like I am in that "stronghold" right now and God is speaking words of guidance (strategy) to me.

Father, You are so faithful. Forgive me for trusting in myself. Help me as I determine to seek and follow Your guidance. You are my refuge and strength.
