“These are the instructions regarding land animals, birds, marine creatures, and animals that scurry along the ground. By these instructions you will know what is unclean and clean, and which animals may be eaten and which may not be eaten.” [Leviticus 11.46-47]
Compare this passage and its context to the following:
About noon the following day as they were on their journey and approaching the city, Peter went up on the roof to pray. He became hungry and wanted something to eat, and while the meal was being prepared, he fell into a trance. He saw heaven opened and something like a large sheet being let down to earth by its four corners. It contained all kinds of four-footed animals, as well as reptiles and birds. Then a voice told him, “Get up, Peter. Kill and eat.” “Surely not, Lord!” Peter replied. “I have never eaten anything impure or unclean.” The voice spoke to him a second time, “Do not call anything impure that God has made clean.” [Acts 10.9-15]
It is interesting that God told Peter He had made clean all the animals and creatures previously declared unclean. How did He do that?
How did He do that?
Well, the only real conclusion we can draw is that this "made clean" was accomplished through Jesus.
Remember the earthquake when Jesus was on the cross? That earthquake signified an event of major importance had occurred not only on the spiritual level (the salvation of man), but also on a natural (earthly) level. Is this the point when God made those previously unclean animals clean? Did this occur concurrent with the salvation of man?
I am just proposing some thoughts here. I am certainly making no dogmatic claims but rather exploring the potential for further understanding of the mechanics of what God did through Jesus. It is interesting to consider.
Father, help me to understand more and more of Your Word every time I read it. Thank You for revealing Yourself to me daily and giving me the opportunity to know You and Your ways more. May I be found seeking Your Kingdom above and beyond all else all the days of my life!
