These are the instructions for the burnt offering, the grain offering, the sin offering, and the guilt offering, as well as the ordination offering and the peace offering. The LORD gave these instructions to Moses on Mount Sinai when he commanded the Israelites to present their offerings to the LORD in the wilderness of Sinai. [Leviticus 7.37-38]
Trying to figure out these different offerings is proving a challenge to me.
Particularly I am having a hard time distinguishing between a sin offering and a guilt offering. It seems from both today's and yesterday's OYCB readings that the sin offering and the guilt offering are very similar except that the sin offering seems more focused on unintentional sins while the guilt offering seems more focused on intentional sins. However, the list of sins requiring a guilt offering includes both intentional and unintentional sins.
The bottom line for me today is simply that I am glad Jesus redeemed me from the requirements and curses of the law!
Father, I feel largely uninformed today as I read about these offerings and the sins requiring them. I can only imagine the insufficiency Your people felt about this before Jesus redeemed them.
