And the LORD said to Moses, “The following instructions are for those seeking ceremonial purification from a skin disease. [Leviticus 14.1-2a]
What follows this verse is a prescription of rituals to be exercised following a skin disease (leprosy).
It is interesting that such an ordeal is made for this event. "Such an ordeal" however, reveals my ignorance of the situation!
Although we may not understand all there is to know about these rituals and their basis (whatever it might be), we can surmise from the detail of them that there is significance. In other words, it was a big deal.
What this tells me is that healing is indeed a big deal. There is, no doubt, a certain attitude toward God that should accompany healing. That attitude should obviously start with gratitude. But, lest gratitude becomes cheapened with nonchalant-ness, the detail of these rituals reminds us that healing is, once again, a big deal.
Father, forgive me for a nonchalant attitude toward health and healing in my life.
