The Holy Spirit

“You fathers—if your children ask for a fish, do you give them a snake instead? Or if they ask for an egg, do you give them a scorpion? Of course not! So if you sinful people know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him.” [Luke 11.11-13]

Why didn't Jesus say, if you sinful people know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give good gifts to those who ask him...? Why instead did Jesus say "the Holy Spirit?"

It occurs to me that the Holy Spirit is a gift far greater than any gift we could be given!

Somehow, it seems modern Christianity has made the Holy Spirit out to be some sort of optional facet in our Christian lives. But nothing could be further from the truth. The Holy Spirit is every good gift from God.

Father, help me to realize and flesh out the Holy Spirit in my life.
