As he was speaking, a woman in the crowd called out, “God bless your mother—the womb from which you came, and the breasts that nursed you!” Jesus replied, “But even more blessed are all who hear the word of God and put it into practice.” [Luke 11.27-28]
Hearing is one thing. Practicing is another.
Jesus knew God's Word. Jesus practiced God's Word. It is that simple.
We live in an age of knowledge. Along with all the other 'knowledge' out there, the knowledge of the Bible is, at least among is students, at an all-time high. Why is it then that the manifest power of God seems to be at an all-time low?
Hearing is one thing. Practicing is another.
Jesus DID the Word of God. He practiced it.
But as for Christianity today, we must consider what we are hearing, or, should I say, how we are hearing.
If we actually hear what God's Word is saying, we are off to a good start. The problem comes however when 'how' we are hearing is set to our own predisposition. If we are predisposed not to act upon God's Word, then, obviously, God's Word will not be put into practice in our lives. It seems this is a problem in Christianity today.
Hearing is one thing. Practicing is another.
Father, help me,, by the presence of the Holy Spirit within me, to not only hear the Word, but to practice it!
