Get It?

This foolish crowd follows him, but they are ignorant of the law. God’s curse is on them!” [John 7.49]

Oh wow. I have said at another time that there is no premium on ignorance. But the educated Pharisees accused Jesus' followers as "ignorant of the law." They even went so far as to say that God's curse was upon Jesus' followers.

Boy, they couldn't have been more wrong.

As I consider some of what is being said about Christians today, especially in the midst of Covid-19, I see how his passage of scripture speaks to these current events.

How foolish it is to believe God will deliver us from this pandemic! Right?

WRONG!

What is foolish is to believe the inventions of man will deliver us from this pandemic! What is foolish is to believe that the knowledge of man will overcome what the Bible clearly defines as a curse on man for disobedience. What is foolish is to have a time-tested historical document of deep spiritual significance that defines good and evil, blessings and curses, and yet to deny it in order to honor "science" that, at best, is still developing. Yeah, that's foolish.

Science is still "building" or accumulating knowledge. In contrast, Jesus said on the Cross, "It is finished."

I don't know about you, but I choose a fully-baked cake over a half-baked cake any day.

What is amazing is that the Pharisees touted "the law" but failed to recognize that everything about the law pointed to Jesus. Jesus told them:

“You search the Scriptures because you think they give you eternal life. But the Scriptures point to me! [John 5.39]

For whatever we understand about the law, it must be in the shadow of the Cross. Otherwise, we "won't get it."

Father, help us - help me - to know Jesus. And, help me to understand everything else in light of Him.
