This is what the LORD says: “Cursed are those who put their trust in mere humans, who rely on human strength and turn their hearts away from the LORD. [Jeremiah 17.5]
Is it wrong to go to the doctor or take medicine?
It is a matter of trust, isn't it?
What is the first thing you think of or do when you experience a pain or symptom? Is it to go to the Lord or schedule a doctor's appointment? Is it to go to the medicine cabinet? Is it to go to the home remedy book?
Here is my definition of modern religion: "The unknown realm of help that humans turn to when all else has failed."
Why do we not see God move today? Because we do not trust Him. We are too smart for God these days. We have all the education, science, politics, insurance, medicine, and frankly, religion that we need - we don't really need God unless these all fail simultaneously.
I believe it is time we purposely turn away from our idolatrous trust in man and turn instead to God.
Jeremiah went on to say in Chapter 17:
O LORD, if you heal me, I will be truly healed; if you save me, I will be truly saved. My praises are for you alone! [Jeremiah 17.14]
What? Was Jeremiah saying that he was looking to God and God alone? Was he saying that healing or salvation from any source other than God was not true healing or salvation? I think so.
That's a pretty big commitment.
Father, forgive me for trusting in the remedies of man instead of You and You alone.
