Pride

The people say, “Our wickedness has caught up with us, LORD, but help us for the sake of your own reputation. We have turned away from you and sinned against you again and again. [Jeremiah 14.7]

Here's a thought: Why not pray the prayer above in our current time of suffering?

I will tell you why! Because we don't think we have sinned! We have bought in to too much false religion and so many false religious ways that we actually don't believe that the curses on our lives are the result of sin. We have every excuse ranging from, "It's just a lack of faith..." to "It's the LORD's Sovereign way of telling us He loves us..." but at no point do we conclude that curses are the result of sin and therefore require repentance!

What is wrong with us?

In a word: PRIDE.

Father, forgive me for so much pride in my life. It is there even when I do not recognize it. Pride is damning me to curses even in the darkness of my own heart - hidden in corners only You, my Lord can illuminate. Father, forgive me.
