Can unjust leaders claim that God is on their side—leaders whose decrees permit injustice? [Psalm 94.20]
Yeah... NO! It is not possible to claim to follow God and openly defy His commands.
And yet, that is precisely what we see in the leadership of the USA. There are many who claim Christianity with their mouths, but when it comes to standing for the Bible and its teachings, they do quite differently.
Examples? Abortion. Homosexuality.
But, you know what is even more dangerous than these? Pride.
Pride is the root of all other sins in our lives. It is the starting point. However, we must be aware that pride is disguised at its basest level. Pride is disguised as self-preservation. As a matter of fact, pride is disguised in nearly every phrase containing the word "self." Self-help, self-esteem, self-awareness, self-centered, and self-improvement are just the start of the "self" infatuation that has become society as we know it! But what does it all have to do with the scripture above?
Well, pride causes the human to see and hear God's Word, and interpret it to mean whatever they want it to mean. Unchecked pride builds a callousness in the human soul to the workings of God's Word and His Spirit. Instead, the calloused heart is convinced that they are the center of their own universe, and therefore whatever God's Word says must support that idea.
That is exactly why we have people in high positions of authority who claim they are Christians, but their lives and actions prove nothing of it. Their pride prevents them from seeing their hypocrisy.
The solution is simply this: we must pray for our leaders. Our prayer for them allows a "manual" opening of their lives to the work of the Holy Spirit Who is the only one who can convince them of their fallacy. God wants all leaders to be saved and to understand the truth.
I urge you, first of all, to pray for all people. Ask God to help them; intercede on their behalf, and give thanks for them. Pray this way for kings and all who are in authority so that we can live peaceful and quiet lives marked by godliness and dignity. This is good and pleases God our Savior, who wants everyone to be saved and to understand the truth. [1 Timothy 2.1-4]
Father, help us to pray for our leaders as we should!
