Psalm 71.18 (Better Late Than Never)

Now that I am old and gray, do not abandon me, O God. Let me proclaim your power to this new generation, your mighty miracles to all who come after me. [Psalm 71.18]

What more could any follower of Christ show to those around him or her?

Let's ask it like this? What did Jesus show the earth in His time here?

I brought glory to you here on earth by completing the work you gave me to do. [John 17.4]

Let's ask another question: What did Jesus instruct His followers to pray for?

May your Kingdom come soon. May your will be done on earth, as it is in heaven. [Matthew 6.10]

Yet another question: What did Jesus tell His followers they would do?

I tell you the truth, anyone who believes in me will do the same works I have done, and even greater works, because I am going to be with the Father. You can ask for anything in my name, and I will do it, so that the Son can bring glory to the Father. Yes, ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it! [John 14.12-14]

The power of God is what Jesus demonstrated while on earth. In John 17.4 Jesus was clear that that power (the works He did) brought glory to God. He was also very clear His followers would bring glory to God:

“I have given them the glory you gave me, so they may be one as we are one.  [John 17.22]

How did Jesus give His followers the glory God gave Him? Remember, the glory follows the works. Jesus commissioned His followers to do the same works He did so they might share in glorifying God!

The works demonstrate the power of God!

Faith prompts us to do the works of Jesus. The power comes from God.

Now that I am old and gray, do not abandon me, O God. Let me proclaim your power to this new generation, your mighty miracles to all who come after me. [Psalm 71.18]

We should not wait until we are old and gray. But, better late than never.

Father, now that I am old and gray, do not abandon me, O God. Let me proclaim your power to this new generation, your mighty miracles to all who come after me.
