Exalt the LORD our God! Bow low before his feet, for he is holy! [Psalm 99.5]
There is something I think the Church has lost today, the understanding of God's holiness.
I say this because we (the Church) oftentimes have a very casual and even flippant attitude about how we approach God.
I once spoke to a man who said he had his "quiet time with God" each morning during his daily bowel movement. Could such a man wonder why his relationship with God seems "crappy?"
I am not saying we need to put on robes and burn incense when we approach God, but I do think there is something lacking in the lackadaisical approach many subscribe to today.
Oh, I get it that Christ is our Robe of Righteousness when we approach God. But if Christ is God (and He Is), then shouldn't we concerned with our "Robe of Righteousness" touching filthy skin?
Again, Jesus is indeed our Redeemer, but is it right then for us to be as unrighteous as we can just because He has accepted us?
Well then, should we keep on sinning so that God can show us more and more of his wonderful grace? Of course not! Since we have died to sin, how can we continue to live in it? Or have you forgotten that when we were joined with Christ Jesus in baptism, we joined him in his death? For we died and were buried with Christ by baptism. And just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glorious power of the Father, now we also may live new lives. [Romans 6.1-4]
To comprehend that our lives are hid with Christ in God will take a lifetime. But it is worth a lifetime to pursue it!
Father, help us to comprehend more of Your holiness. Help us understand the holiness of Christ in us!
