I will pour out my vengeance on all the nations that refuse to obey me. [Micah 5.15]
This verse is the LORD speaking.
Regardless of the context or timing of this verse, it reveals something of God's character, doesn't it?
God expects obedience. He always has and always will.
God's very character demands obedience. Whether it was obedience to the Law in the Old Testament, or the obedience of faith in Christ, it still remains "obedience."
Anyone found outside of obedience (again, once it was to the Law, but now to Christ), will experience vengeance from the Loving God Who Is also Just.
Obedience is timeless. Unlike the Law of Moses, that was fulfilled in Christ, obedience remains necessary for its practitioners to experience the Law of the Spirit of Life in Christ Jesus! Faith is obedience!
Disobedience secures God's vengeance.
I know, I know, it's not politically correct to make such statements. Furthermore, such talk makes God out to be someone to be feared... Uhh... exactly. Jesus said it best...
But I will show you whom you should fear: Fear him who, after your body has been killed, has authority to throw you into hell. Yes, I tell you, fear him. [Luke 12.5]
Father, help us to have sense enough to understand that perfect love and perfect justice are inseparable. Help us to see that, for that reason, obedience is absolutely necessary for us to please You. Help us to see that the obedience of faith is what pleases You.
