Isaiah 30.1

“What sorrow awaits my rebellious children,” says the LORD. “You make plans that are contrary to mine. You make alliances not directed by my Spirit, thus piling up your sins. [Isaiah 30.1]

God simply does not tolerate His people depending on anyone or anything else. Period.

What follows this verse in Isaiah is the narrative explaining God's disdain with Judah for depending on Egypt.

Although we may justify our dependence upon people and things, there is no justification for such before Almighty God.

In the case of Judah in this scripture, there were depending on Egypt for protection. Egypt seemed like the likely candidate to do so ...except for God.

The application for this historical record is no less important today. What are God's people depending on to rescue them? Politics? Medicine? Money?

Father, forgive us for depending on politics, money and medicine to save us. And, worse yet, forgive us for our self-confidence in thinking we can "get through this together" as if our unity could override the judgment for sin we are experiencing.
