O LORD, hear me as I pray; pay attention to my groaning. Listen to my cry for help, my King and my God, for I pray to no one but you. Listen to my voice in the morning, LORD. Each morning I bring my requests to you and wait expectantly. [Psalm 5.1-3]
I can relate to this Psalm.
How sweet it is.
However, we are constantly tempted to trust in other gods - gods of finance, gods of science and medicine, gods of politics, gods of social order... even gods of religion.
We all need help - one way or another. We are humans and therefore we are needy. The gods of this world constantly seduce us to trust in them. They promise everything God Almighty said He would provide for us - but, with the gods of this world, there is always a 'catch.' The gods of this world most usually 'allow' us to relate to God, but only as far as 'spiritual things' are allowed. But, when it comes to real needs being met, the gods of this world reason that they are the only real source.
The Psalmist David teaches us in this passage today that God alone is the One to Whom we should bring our needs... daily... and watch and wait for Him to meet those needs...
Father, I want no one to receive my faith but You. You gave me faith and made clear that nothing but faith pleases You. In other words, You require nothing of me except that which You first gave me... Father, I believe, and therefore I pray to You!
