God's Promises Are Pure

The LORD’s promises are pure, like silver refined in a furnace, purified seven times over. [Psalm 12.6]

This verse seemed a little odd to me at first... The LORD's promises are "pure"?

What does that mean?

I think it means that if God has promised something, there is no element of uncertainty attached to it whatsoever.

God said sin would bring death...

God said a virgin would conceive a child...

God said there will be a day of reckoning for every human being...

Of all the books ever written, only the Bible has such a record of accuracy in defining 'how things are' and 'how things will be.'

The Bible is not just a book of promises, but God's Book of Promise. The Bible contains God's Story of Redemption. It is the Story of pure love.

The Bible reveals God's promises and how those promises are put to the test - "refined in a furnace" if you will. With every "refinement" however, those promises are only further purified - their quality only shines brighter.

Seven times, the Psalmist says, God's promises are purified. This indicates that there is a progression of events. But it also indicates that there is a number associated with the number of times God's promises are tried by fire... And then?

"And then?" indeed. The number "seven" indicates perfection. When all is said and done, God's people will dwell in eternity with God - creation reunited with the Creator. It will be 'purely' perfect.

Father, Your promises are pure. Let them shine in and through my life.
