Questions, Questions...

My God, my God, why have you abandoned me? Why are you so far away when I groan for help? [Psalm 22.1]

This is, perhaps, one of the most exciting scriptures in all the Bible. To the carnal mind, it will only be understood for its negative face value. But to the spiritual mind, it is among the most positive verses in the Bible!

How so?

First, David wrote these questions prophetically long before Jesus walked the earth. But these would be the very words Jesus chose, on the Cross, to quote.

Wait... Jesus was quoting scripture on the Cross? Yep, that is a fact. The Gospel of Matthew tells us, "And about the ninth hour Jesus cried out with a loud voice, saying, “Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani?” that is, “My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me?" [Matthew 27.46]

When Jesus 'made this request' it really was no request at all, but instead, Jesus, in His most dire time on earth, was quoting straight from scripture! Jesus began His ministry on earth quoting scripture to Satan in the wilderness and Jesus ended His ministry on earth quoting scripture on the Cross.

And that's not even the most exciting part...

The fact that Jesus would quote a scripture that is a question is absolutely profound. Let me explain...

God knows everything. In religious circles, it is stated that God is omniscient (all-knowing). NEVER does God ask a question because He does not know the answer. NEVER! Remember, God knows everything!

So, why does God ask questions throughout the Bible??? Excellent question!

Let's look at God's first question recorded in the Bible:

Then the LORD God called to Adam and said to him, “Where are you?” [Genesis 3.9]

Do you think Adam and Eve had effectively hidden from God and God therefore couldn't find them? NO! That's just silly.

God asked, "Where are you?" because Adam and Eve didn't "know where they were" but desperately needed to. By asking them this question, God was drawing them to understand that He knew they had sinned and that they were in trouble and that they needed to repent. This is important...

Jesus, used this same technique on the Cross when he quoted Psalm 22.1. By "asking a question" Jesus was reminding God of His marvelous plan from Creation to redeem mankind! Jesus was holding God to His word! The answer to Jesus' question was a spiritual answer and it is this: The reason Jesus was forsaken was so that the world might be saved!!!!! It was always the PLAN! Jesus was conversing with the Father in 'spiritual-speak' saying... wait for it... "THE PLAN IS FINISHED!!!!"

If this does not rock our world, then we need to keep meditating on it until we get it!

I like to think of it this way: Jesus was saying, "This was Your plan all along and I am Your huckleberry! We have done it! Salvation has been secured and the keys to the Kingdom have been reclaimed never to be misplaced again!"

Yes, yes, yes... AMEN!

Father, thank You for the Truth of Your Word!
