Then the woman who was the real mother of the living child, and who loved him very much, cried out, “Oh no, my lord! Give her the child—please do not kill him!” But the other woman said, “All right, he will be neither yours nor mine; divide him between us!” [1 Kings 3.26]
At the end of the day, God is love. Likewise, those who are God's, love. Those who are genuine and true, love. Those who care, love.
And what does love look like? To be very clear and specific, love preserves life and well-being.
In today's world and mental state, love has been called many things. Unfortunately, today's 'love' has become infiltrated with pride, greed, and lust.
The implications of the entire story the verse above is extracted from are far reaching... they are very practical for us even today. The story reveals that genuine love is concerned for the object of that love more than for itself. In contrast, it reveals that false love is concerned only for itself.
Father, help us to learn a lesson from this story of Solomon's wisdom. Help us learn to discern between what is 'love' and what is just selfishness.
