Dangerous and Hard Prayer

Pour out your wrath on the nations that refuse to acknowledge you—on kingdoms that do not call upon your name. [Psalm 79.6]

What a dangerous and hard prayer!

In a nation that murders innocent unborn babies, claims "pride" in perverted sex, touts "national pride" independent of God, and celebrates words like diversity, inclusion, and tolerance when it comes to things clearly marked "sin" by the Bible, is it enough for that nation to print "In God We Trust" on its money and call it good? Does the mention of God in that nation's founding documents allow that nation to turn from God without consequence?

I want to act and pray like the Bible says, but it sure makes it tough when that prayer calls for God's wrath upon my own nation - upon me!

What is one to do? There is only one course of action: stay with the Bible! The Bible predates the USA and the Bible will remain long after the USA no longer exists.

I am not anti-American. But I do wish to side with God when it comes to sin. God is anti-sin. If I must choose between Holy God and sin-loving USA, I am compelled to choose God. Jesus Himself was very clear of God's requirements:

But you are to be perfect, even as your Father in heaven is perfect. [Matthew 5.48]

What then do I do with my sinful nation? Do I turn my back on it? NO! A thousand times, NO!

Then if my people who are called by my name will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sins and restore their land. [2 Chronicles 7.14]

Father, forgive me, as an American, for all of the proud sin my nation flaunts. Forgive me for any and all personal inclusion, tolerance, or diversity when it comes to that which You have clearly labeled as sin.
