Nothing But Jesus

God has united you with Christ Jesus. For our benefit God made him to be wisdom itself. Christ made us right with God; he made us pure and holy, and he freed us from sin. Therefore, as the Scriptures say, “If you want to boast, boast only about the Lord.” [1 Corinthians 1.30-31]

What does pride and arrogance do in the life of any person? It prevents them from being right with God. It prevents them from being pure and holy. And it prevents them from being freed from sin.

If a person is relying on any one or any thing other than Jesus Christ (including himself), that person is excluding himself from every benefit of Christ: being right with God, being pure and holy, and being freed from sin.

The first part of the passage above is profound. God has united you with Christ Jesus. 

To be united with Jesus is to be everything Jesus IS. Jesus IS a man. Jesus IS God's son. Jesus IS the representative of heaven. Jesus IS devoid of "self" (He ultimately put the world first in dying on the Cross), Jesus IS resurrected from death, Jesus IS free from the world and the curse upon the world, Jesus IS seated at God's right hand, Jesus IS the very authority of God. 

Now, what does it mean to be united with Christ Jesus? The very fact that we would ask that question proves that we have missed it altogether! United means united. It means joined with. It means one and the same with. It means everything in common with. It means we share in everything Jesus IS!

If we encounter anything less than everything Jesus IS, then we have an important remedy: the Name of Jesus. There is no other solution - there is no other remedy - there is no other savior - there is no other hope - there is no other healing - there is no other provision - there is no other righteousness - there is no other redemption - there is no other peace. 

There is no "self-help" for the true believer. There is only Jesus, and there needs to be nothing else.

When we are genuinely united with Christ, there is no other need.

Father, forgive me for trusting in anything other than Jesus. I have become very good at trusting many things and I confess that I am weak at trusting Jesus. Help me to quit believing in anything but Jesus. Especially help me to quit believing in myself.  I want to reserve all faith for You - for Jesus, Who gave it.
