Time

Gideon hurried home. He cooked a young goat, and with a basket of flour he baked some bread without yeast. Then, carrying the meat in a basket and the broth in a pot, he brought them out and presented them to the angel, who was under the great tree. [Judges 6.19]

Gideon "hurried" home...

Here is what "hurried" looked like probably:

Gideon probably had to build a fire (or at least build an existing fire up). Time.

Gideon had to butcher a goat to cook. Time.

Gideon had to prepare bread to bake. Time.

Gideon had to cook/bake the goat and the bread. Time.

All the while, the angel of the LORD apparently waited under the great tree at Ophrah.

If we think about these facts for just a moment, it soon becomes apparent that the angel of the LORD had quite a wait.

Why am I pointing this out? Because our idea of "hurry" and Gideon's idea of "hurry" are two entirely different things!

How much time is invested by the average "Christian" in preparing to meet with God?

One poll I read about says the average Christian actually prays 3-7 minutes per day (including mealtime prayers). What might that say then about the amount of time spent "preparing" for that 3-7 minutes of time with God? It doesn't take a rocket-scientist to figure that one out.

Few people spend enough time with God - let alone preparing to be with God...

Just like love is spelled T-I-M-E in the family setting, so it is with God - even more so!

God is not an accessory to our lives. He IS our life. There is nothing in life more precious than time spent with God.

And yet, with all the modern 'miracles' of technology, we find less and less time for the things that matter: God, family, etc...

There is a lesson in this for all of us (I know there is for me). But will we take it to heart?

Father, help me to stop my busy-ness and be more focused on You and the things that matter in life!
