So Jonathan made a solemn pact with David, saying, “May the LORD destroy all your enemies!” And Jonathan made David reaffirm his vow of friendship again, for Jonathan loved David as he loved himself. [1 Samuel 20.16-17]
The vow that Jonathan made with David may have very well cost him his life. As Jonathan was Saul's son, and Saul vowed to kill David (making him his enemy), Jonathan was in a precarious position. He carried in his veins the blood of David's enemy! And yet, he proclaimed the blessing upon David: "May the LORD destroy all your enemies!
I wish we understood more today about vows - about commitment. I think we have much to learn about committing to something or someone!
Father, I want to understand more about commitment. I want to understand more about making a vow and keeping it!
