I cry out to God Most High, to God who will fulfill his purpose for me. [Psalm 57.2]
David makes a pretty bold statement here. And yet, it is in total humility and submission to God...
At this point in David's life, much is in disarray. He has had to flee from Saul even though he has already been anointed to be king. I am sure David had plenty of reasons to feel sorry for himself.
So, what did he do? He cried out to God Most High! And, what's more, he stated his faith that God Most High would fulfill His purpose for him (David)! That purpose was that David would lead and serve Israel as king.
The lesson I see here is that, regardless of circumstances, we need simply to stay focused on God's purpose - God's Kingdom - and our role to bring it! That is what Jesus demonstrated for us while on earth and He fully intends that we follow His lead now that He has ascended back to God.
It takes faith to do God's will. As a matter of fact, without faith, God's will will not be done (because without faith it is impossible to please God). So, like David, I am encouraged to cry out to God Most High! I am encouraged to cry out to God Most High Who will fulfill His purpose for me.
And what is God's purpose for me? To be like Jesus - to bring the Kingdom of God - God's will as it is in heaven - to every circumstance I encounter in this life.
We must remain aware that God's Kingdom is not about "me." Instead, we must remain mindful that "we" are about God's Kingdom!
We must remain aware that God's Kingdom is not about "me." Instead, we must remain mindful that "we" are about God's Kingdom!
Father, I cry out to You - God Most High - Who will fulfill Your purpose for me... to serve You and Your Kingdom, as Jesus demonstrated, while I am here on earth!
