Like a fluttering sparrow or a darting swallow, an undeserved curse will not land on its intended victim. [Proverbs 26.2]
In other words, bad things do not happen to good people!
I just do not understand why we would want to complicate life so much with all our "unknowns" when we could be gauging our compliance with God and His ways by the blessings or curses upon our lives!
But to live this simply would mean we might have to repent. In the presence of so many curses, we would have to get to work confessing our shortcomings.
This simple living would not require volume upon volume of theological books! It would not require endless confusion. This simple living would only require a repentant heart - a life willing to accept that only God knows everything, and, if we suffer, then there is sin in our life that needs to be repented of.
This simple living would require humility. This simple living would require that we readily accept troublesome circumstances as indicators of our need to repent and then do so.
I don't mean to downplay the fact that our enemy does not need to be overcome. But, I very much mean to indicate that our primary and greatest defense against Satan is a repentant heart toward God!
Do you really think God wants us to waste so much time on the devil? If God be for us, who can be against us? Shouldn't our main goal be to be right with God and then let Him fight for us (The LORD Himself will fight for you. Just stay calm - Exodus 14.14)?
It is worth noting that Jesus resisted Satan before any sin was involved. Once however, we have begun to experience suffering, the 'rebuking Satan' part is too late - we are already experiencing consequences. It is time then to repent!
We just need to get off our arrogance and repent. We need to be readily repentant! We need to resist the devil at the first sign of temptation, but repent to God at the first sign of suffering.
Doesn't this seem much simpler?
Father, help me to keep my devotion to You simple.
