But this is what the Sovereign LORD says: “This invasion will never happen; it will never take place; for Syria is no stronger than its capital, Damascus, and Damascus is no stronger than its king, Rezin. As for Israel, within sixty-five years it will be crushed and completely destroyed. Israel is no stronger than its capital, Samaria, and Samaria is no stronger than its king, Pekah son of Remaliah. Unless your faith is firm, I cannot make you stand firm.” [Isaiah 7.7-9]
Isaiah brought this message to Ahaz, king of Judah, when the kings of Syria and Israel made known they were going to attack Judah.
When God instructed Isaiah to take this message to Ahaz, He also instructed Isaiah to tell Ahaz to stop worrying (vs. 4). This seems to be God's calling card: "Fear not..."
The point I wish to make today is the last part of verse 9 in the passage noted above... "Unless your faith is firm, I cannot make you stand firm."
We have a role in life as God sees it, and that role is to believe in Him. To trust Him. To fully rely on Him. I think it is interesting that God says there is something He cannot do! He cannot work with unbelief.
God cannot work with unbelief.
I am thinking just now of all the naysayers regarding faith in God. Of course they have no evidence of God in their lives - they do not believe! Our verbal argument with these people otherwise is useless. The only effective tool we have to convince these people otherwise is the testimony of our lives lived out in the obvious blessings of God. Just because their lives have no answered prayers does not mean our lives cannot have answered prayers in front of them!
We all need to consider what we believe. Everyone believes something - even if it is to believe there is nothing to believe in - that is still believing something! Why not believe in God?
Father, I am encouraged to stand firm in faith today.
