Then Saul gave David his own armor—a bronze helmet and a coat of mail. David put it on, strapped the sword over it, and took a step or two to see what it was like, for he had never worn such things before. “I can’t go in these,” he protested to Saul. “I’m not used to them.” So David took them off again. He picked up five smooth stones from a stream and put them into his shepherd’s bag. Then, armed only with his shepherd’s staff and sling, he started across the valley to fight the Philistine. [1 Samuel 17.38-40]
There is a great lesson for us here today if we will see it.
There will be those in life who offer solutions to life's challenges that are not right for us.
We must stay true to what we are successful at without allowing ourselves to be encumbered with what others think works (regardless how successful they have been). We must do what we have proven works for us and trust that it is more than enough!
For what it is worth, David's story of his slingshot is, in some way, a look into the future of warfare. His weapon and its projectile would be the predecessors of the most common weapons of war today - personal firearms.
Father, help me to trust You with the gifts and anointing You have proven in me and not feel compelled to be or do anything that is not proven in my life.
