God Is Our Provider

Then this message came to me from the LORD: “Son of man, sing a funeral song for Tyre, that mighty gateway to the sea, the trading center of the world. [Ezekiel 27.1-3a]

What follows this passage is a description of abundant trade done at Tyre. The resources found on this apparent island in the sea were staggering. In other words, Tyre "had it all."

The thing is though, having it all did Tyre no good.

"Stuff" can never insulate anyone from God and His will. But, unfortunately, people fall victim to thinking their material accomplishments somehow prove their autonomy. Nothing exposes us more to disaster.

Although God promises over and again to materially bless His own (among all other blessings), His followers must take every precaution to prevent themselves from becoming "lost" in that material blessing by taking their eyes off the One Who Provides.

The lesson here is simple: God is our provider.

Father, as I consider my life, help me to increasingly understand that You are my provider.
