“Come and see a man who told me everything I ever did! Could he possibly be the Messiah?” So the people came streaming from the village to see him. [John 4.29-30]
There was no doubt a sense of expectancy by the Samaritan woman in John 4 regarding Messiah. Apparently, she was not alone in her sense of expectancy as she went back into her village and related to her people about their expectancy for Messiah as well.
There was something to be said for expecting Messiah.
What did they expect? Evidently, at least in this woman's perception, Jesus fit enough of her expectations to at least consider Him as Messiah and ask her townspeople to do the same.
Fast forward: What do we expect as we anticipate not the first Advent of Messiah, but the Second?
Father, this question makes me consider what I expect from the Second Coming!
