God Likes Music

The musicians, all prominent Levites, lived at the Temple. They were exempt from other responsibilities since they were on duty at all hours. All these men lived in Jerusalem. They were the heads of Levite families and were listed as prominent leaders in their genealogical records. [1 Chronicles 9.34-34]

Here is an interesting bit of info found in the Bible: the musicians' role.

Pretty much if a person learns that another person is a musician, there is an immediate stereotype that is associated with that person. Because music today involves so much more secular application than sacred, usually that stereotype includes a lot of travel, late nights, and little pay. The musician is usually seen as one who is willing to live outside 'normal' lifestyle parameters with little or no 'roots put down' on the domestic side of things.

However, the role of musician in Temple worship was much different. Music and Temple worship could not be separated - there was no shortage of prescribed musical communication of adoration and praise in the Temple at all times. The musicians literally lived on location and worked in shifts to keep this musical presentation to the LORD going 24/7.

God evidently likes music!

Father, help me to meditate today on the fact that You like music and desire to be worshiped through that medium.
