Slaves At Home

“So now today we are slaves in the land of plenty that you gave our ancestors for their enjoyment! We are slaves here in this good land. The lush produce of this land piles up in the hands of the kings whom you have set over us because of our sins. They have power over us and our livestock. We serve them at their pleasure, and we are in great misery.” [Nehemiah 9.36-37]

The people of Judah were slaves at home. While they had indeed been deported (some of them) and allowed to return, they remained under the rule of non-national entities.

As I read the passage noted above, I could not help but relate to the distinctly Christian forefathers of the United Stated of America. Every word of the few sentences above has application to the Christian plight in the USA today.

In fact, every citizen of the USA has become subject to its government gone bad. However, only the Christian population has eyes to see the real bondage that has crept upon the nation. The unsaved population are ignorant of the problem and line up to present themselves as fodder to a broken system of consumption, greed and immorality. Both the government-gone-bad and the ever-increasing unsaved population are part of the problem.

Where does it end? When do Christians stop being in bondage at home?

2 Chronicles 7.14 is the place to start. And, the burden of responsibility is upon those who belong to God (on His terms).

Father, I want to be part of the solution and not part of the problem in the USA.
