Joseph, her fiancé, was a good man and did not want to disgrace her publicly, so he decided to break the engagement quietly. [Matthew 1.19]
Sometimes, when you are honestly seeking God, your plans get changed.
Joseph, being the good guy that he was, decided to give Mary a quiet departure from their engagement to be married. Again, he was a good man - he had every right to publicly expose Mary and perhaps even have her stoned to death, but he chose not to.
However, even in Joseph's choice not to expose Mary, God had yet other plans for this 'good man' Joseph! Even though Joseph's plan was a good and even gracious plan, God had a better plan!
The lesson here is that God may change even our good plans!
Father, I want to be attentive to You and Your plans for me and my life. I am Yours - do with me as You will!
