Christ In Me

When they couldn’t find him, they went back to Jerusalem to search for him there. Three days later they finally discovered him in the Temple, sitting among the religious teachers, listening to them and asking questions. All who heard him were amazed at his understanding and his answers. [Luke 2.45-47]

This seems an unlikely passage to comment on, but something about it speaks to me today.

Mary and Joseph spent three days searching for Jesus back in Jerusalem. Where did they look? It would appear that for most of three days anyway they looked in the wrong places!

I think that question is what intrigues me. Where do we look for Jesus?

If we no longer have a Temple, then where is Jesus to be found?

I suppose the best option would be the Church. Not that the a church building serves as a temple, but it does provide a place for the Living Body of Christ to meet.

Paul the apostle wrote that our bodies are the temple of the Holy Spirit. Jesus told His followers that He would leave them but return by His Spirit to dwell in them. So, is it safe to conclude that if we are to find Jesus we must look within?

It would be premature to look within before the salvation experience, so, to find Jesus, one must look where He already dwells - in the hearts and lives of believers.

Question: Is my life such a 'place' that Jesus can be found in it?

Father, I can see the depth of meaning of "Christ in me". Let the light of Jesus shine in and through my life to all who are seeking Him!
