No Friend of God

I have only a few thoughts about Ahab today.  The man must have been quite the personality.  It would seem that he was impulsive.  It would also seem that although he got involved is some pretty messed-up situations, he still had a conscience that could be appealed to.  However, although Ahab obviously had a conscience, he also had something in him that continually drew him away from God.  His wife Jezebel seemed to be just the ticket to sway Ahab in the wrong direction too.

I think a lot of people today relate to Ahab.  Many sympathize with Ahab's wide swings from evil to repentance.  But Ahab's story is not a good one - the ending is undesirable and we should never settle for it.   Ahab, even with moments of seemingly genuine repentance, was no friend of God.

No amount of personality or alliances can negate the wrath of God upon those whose hearts are not true to Him.

Father, I have on many occasions, been comfortable with my life of swings from good to bad to good.  Please help me to be absolutely discontent with such nonsense and turn wholeheartedly to You!
