God Is Merciful

Then Jehoahaz prayed for the Lord’s help, and the Lord heard his prayer, for he could see how severely the king of Aram was oppressing Israel. [2 Kings 13.4]

This account of Jehoahaz's prayer is both preceded and followed by statements of fact that Jehoahaz and Israel continued to sin.  There was obviously no commitment on Israel's part to turn away from sin - just a weak moment that Jehoahaz prayed to God.  Perhaps that weak moment was pure desperation.

This sounds so much like the USA to me!

Father, please forgive us for our fickle relationship with You.  Forgive us for only turning to You when we are at our worst.  Forgive us for presuming upon Your mercy.  But thank You that You are Who You Are and that Your mercy endures forever!
