Pride

Amaziah did what was pleasing in the Lord’s sight, but not wholeheartedly. [2 Chronicles 25.2]

I am wondering today how the statement above can be so.  Maybe it could better be said that Amaziah did right for a while but then turned his back on God.

Regardless, it was obvious from the narrative that Amaziah realized a great victory when Judah defeated the Edomites.  What inspired Amaziah however then to attack Israel?  It seems it was nothing more than just pride.

And then, we get another little lesson on pride in the story of Uzziah.

And then, yet another example of pride is seen in Jonah's story!

Is there a theme today?

Father, I know that pride is perhaps one of the most dangerous things we can participate in.  The reason it comes is because You do something in or around our lives, and for some reason, we take ownership of it.  Help us - help me - to remember that I am nothing apart from You.
