Ten Commandments / Book of the Covenant

When the Lord finished speaking with Moses on Mount Sinai, he gave him the two stone tablets inscribed with the terms of the covenant, written by the finger of God. [Exodus 31.18]
The statement above follows all the instructions about the Tabernacle and all its furnishings, the priests' details, etc... and all this following the issuance of the Ten Commandments.
I am wondering if there was more written on the two stones than just the Ten Commandments.  I will have to pay especially close attention to any mention of the tablets to see if in fact they are said to contain the Ten Commandments alone or perhaps the entirety of the covenant terms.
Back in Exodus 24 (after the Ten Cmmandments and other instructions were given), it was mentioned that Moses wrote down these instructions and that was referred to as the Book of the Covenant.  It was after this mention that God then told Moses He would give him tablets of stone upon which were written the "instructions and commands" for teaching the people.  Is it possible then that these stones contained much more than just the Ten Commandments?
And what about that Book of the Covenant as recorded by Moses?  Did Moses just jump the gun and write stuff down that God would actually later include on the tablets?
Father, these questions about the Ten Commandments and the Book of the Coveneant have always confused me.  Give me eyes to see and a heart to comprehend and understand what the Bible says.
