Man of God - Man of the People

If it is true that you look favorably on me, let me know your ways so I may understand you more fully and continue to enjoy your favor. [Exodus 33.13a]
These are some serious words spoken by Moses to God.  There is more to verse 13 than just this sentence, however, it is the implication of this sentence I wish to focus on today - Moses, the man of God.  That being said, perhaps I have just revealed my own selfishness which was absent in Moses...  There was more to Moses' request than to selfishly understand God and enjoy His favor!
And remember that this nation is your very own people. [Exodus 33.13b]
The obvious goal of Moses' request was for Israel.  What Moses requested of God (understanding and favor) was for Israel's benefit.  Moses was not just a man of God, but truly a man of the people as well.
While there is much about Moses and his relationship with Israel that is not understood, there are two very prominent indicators of Moses' intentions in today's OYCB reading: this verse already discussed and the following:
But now, if you will only forgive their sin—but if not, erase my name from the record you have written! [Exodus 32.32]
It is very likely that this trait was why God chose Moses to lead His people out of Egypt.  Although we can and will see imperfections in Moses, we also see real leadership.
Father, thank You for the life of Moses that we today might look upon and learn from.  Help us to have relationship with You that cannot be separated from our relationship with man.
