Even with Israel's rebellion in requesting a king, there is still a lot of to-do in anointing Saul as king.
It is interesting that even though God was displeased with this new direction that He still had Samuel perform ritualistic tasks to appoint and anoint Saul before God and the people. Likewise it seems misplaced that so many "prophetic" words were inspired during this time - a time of rebellion.
What is there for me to glean from this? That God will overlook my rebellion and bless my decisions regardless of His perfect will?
I am just trying to put myself back in the days chronicled here and imagine how it would have been. I find it very difficult to comprehend that God went so far as to point out the rebellion of Israel to want a king and yet commissioned signs and prophetic words in confirmation of Saul becoming king.
I don't get it.
Father, I know that rebellion is bad. I know that Saul's rule ultimately failed. But I do not understand how You selected and confirmed Saul even after declaring Israel's rebellion in wanting him...
