The Anointing

In considering David's refusal to kill Saul when it appeared God had handed him over to David, it occurred to me that David was indeed in a hard place.  Yes, Saul was God's anointed, but even though it appeared God handed him over to David, Saul was still David's best friend's dad.

Regardless, we have no indication that the fact stated above factored in to David's decision to spare Saul.  Even after Saul's death, David killed the man who falsely claimed to have killed Saul for the reason that Saul was indeed anointed by God and, as such, should have been left entirely to the hand of God (I don't really see how the guy killing Saul was not the hand of God - but oh well).

Father, again today I do not understand, or even feel like I have the foundation to understand, the reverence David held for Your anointing.
