“The time is surely coming,” says the Sovereign Lord, “when I will send a famine on the land— not a famine of bread or water but of hearing the words of the Lord. [Amos 8.11]
Whoa! A famine of hearing the words of the Lord? That sounds like us today! And here we thought it was our own doing - that we were too busy to take time for the Word of God. But NO! God decides who gets His holy Word and who does not! Wow.
Could it be that this is exactly what we are experiencing today? Could it be that God has determined that we are unworthy of His Word and therefore has limited our interaction with it? Let's face it, if there were a 'prophet among us' declaring, "This is what the Lord says"... that outcome is no secret! I know any time I hear the word 'prophet' associated with a contemporary person, I think "fruitcake!" As well, when a push is made to engage in God's Word on a more committed basis today, people simple declare their busy-ness and go about their own business.
ARE WE IN A FAMINE OF GOD'S WORD?
Father, forgive me for thinking Your Word is something whose intake is decided by me!
