Then Simon Peter arrived and went inside. He also noticed the linen wrappings lying there, while the cloth that had covered Jesus’ head was folded up and lying apart from the other wrappings. [John 20.6,7]
I am not necessarily splitting hairs here, but I am curious what significance there is to the head cloth being folded and lying off to itself. Who folded that cloth? Jesus? If so, why? He had just risen from the dead, what possibly could have inspired Him to stop and fold the cloth?
I would like to think that possibly Jesus did indeed fold that head cloth. And, I would like to imagine He did it for a specific purpose - to take the time to consider what had taken place while folding the piece of grave wear for the head - the center of thought - as a symbol for us to follow suit.
Perhaps we too should use our heads to THINK about what Jesus has accomplished on behalf of all who will believe. Perhaps we need a quiet moment to consider death and its defeat by Christ - in our minds going through the whole scenario -the beatings, the mockery, the crucifixion - and finally understanding that death's grip was simply incompetent against the love (and therefore the power) of God.
Yes. We need to think it through...
Father, I can only come to the same conclusion that I have on so many occasions before... Thank You for Jesus!
