Amazing Grace

Then he said, “Jesus, remember me when you come into your Kingdom.” [Luke 23.42]

I am in awe of the insight and understanding of the one criminal who recognized Jesus as the Messiah. The statement he made indicates very clearly that this one criminal had a grasp of eternity. He understood Jesus. He understood the cross. He understood grace.

This criminal was condemned to die. One would only assume this man was not a good man. And here he was on full display about to die for the crimes he committed. By his own mouth he admitted his guilt - he had lived as one deserving death. And yet, this criminal saw in Jesus reason to hope - reason to believe.

This is as good as it gets. This picture describes the whole story better than any. The Best of the best crucified alongside the worst of the worst - ready to embrace faith and faith alone.

There is no hope for a life turned to good works by the criminal. There is no time to mend his ways. There is no time to make restitution for his wrongdoing. And still he believes...

Inconceivable.

Amazing grace.

Father, I am so grateful for this picture today of Your amazing grace. Thank You for Jesus.
