Entitlement

Ungrateful, forgetful people seem to be the theme in both the OT and NT readings today. How quickly people forget! Korah, Dathan, and Abiram forgot all the amazing deliverance God had given them from Egypt (so much so that they really thought Egypt was better!). The people in general turned on Jesus and demanded that He be crucified when only days before He was healing their sick!

As I pondered this today, I wondered how easily I forget as well? How quickly do I complain about circumstances when so much has been done for me - I have been given so much.

Entitlement is the problem. No matter what we have been given, at the point we begin to think we deserve it, is precisely when we become un-thankful. And un-thankfulness is NOT good. Entitlement makes the whole thing about "me." Entitlement means that nothing else really matters except that I am comfortable and satisfied. Entitlement is blind and proud. Entitlement is about as far from Jesus and the message of the Bible as one can get.

Father, forgive me for thinking I am something when I am not! And thank You for Jesus and all You have given me in Him!
