Give your burdens to the Lord, and he will take care of you. He will not permit the godly to slip and fall. [Psalm 55.22]
Do we dare claim this? God will not let the "godly" slip and fall. Does that not effectively exclude everyone? Will anyone actually step forward and say, "I am godly!"? Is anyone so proud and arrogant to make this claim? Anyone?
Last night, in a discussion with some people, it was pointed out that we should strive to see others with God's eyes - we should strive to have God's perspective on others. Here's the twist: we should do this concerning ourselves as well.
So, how does God see others? He loves them and desires to be in fellowship with them (because that fellowship is broken - not there). He wants them to come to Him, but they can only do so through faith in Jesus (faith restores fellowship with God). That faith likewise transfers all ungodliness to the cross leaving the faithful clean - godly.
Faith does the same for us. If we can receive it, when we look to God through Jesus in faith, all our indiscretions are accounted as "paid for in full" by Jesus' work on the cross - leaving us clean - godly. To say anything else would actually blaspheme the work of Jesus on the cross.
I am godly.
Father, it seems so wrong to say, "I am godly." But, as I believe in Jesus, it is untrue and ungrateful to say anything else! Thank you for Jesus - Thank You for making me clean through Him - Thank You for making me godly. And so, I give my burdens to You today, and I know You will take care of me!
