I can't even get my head around all these sacrifices today...
Mark seems interested in documenting Jesus' miraculous power. In considering the big picture of Mark's narrative - and most particularly the Mark 2 event of the man being let down through the roof - it seems Jesus is driving home that healing and forgiveness of sins are directly related.
Religious people today don't really like to visit this subject... but wait religious people in Jesus' day didn't want to discuss it either! As a matter of fact, the religious people in Jesus' time despised Him so much for His correlation of forgiveness with healing that they eventually killed Him for it.
And what exactly did Jesus have to say about healing and forgiveness?
Jesus knew immediately what they were thinking, so he asked them, “Why do you question this in your hearts? Is it easier to say to the paralyzed man ‘Your sins are forgiven,’ or ‘Stand up, pick up your mat, and walk’? So I will prove to you that the Son of Man has the authority on earth to forgive sins.” Then Jesus turned to the paralyzed man and said, “Stand up, pick up your mat, and go home!” [Mark 2.8-11]
Hello! Jesus made out forgiveness and healing as synonymous. No matter which way Jesus addressed the sick guy, the results were the same. And yet, Jesus was hated for His Truth.
Hmmm.
Father, please feed my heart and my head today with Truth. And also give me the courage to accept that Truth for what You desire it to be in me.
